Kaya Scodelario

Kaya Rose Humphrey was born on March 13, 1992 in Holloway, London, England, United Kingdom to her parents Katia Scodelario and Roger Humphrey. Her parents divorced when she was a child and was raised in England by her mother, adopting her mother’s surname Scodelario. Because her mother is Brazilian, Kaya grew up fluent in Brazilian Portuguese, as well as English.

When Kaya was 14 years old, in 2007, she was cast as Effy Stonem on the BBC drama series “Skins” in 26 episodes, spread out over 7 seasons. In 2009, she would appear in her first film Moon as Eve, starring Sam Rockwell and Kevin Spacey. The film received positive reviews after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. She and “Skins” co-star Jack O’Connell would start dating before splitting up in mid-2009. She would next play Tasha in 2010’s Shank, a film about a London gang setting out on a chase to avenge the murder of one of their members. Kaya would next play Peshet in the the Greek Fantasy remake Clash of the Titans, starring Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton. She would play the role of Cathy in the 2011 film Wuthering Heights, where she was hailed as a “heart-wrenching revelation” after the Venice Film Festival premiere.

In 2012, Kaya would appear in a couple episodes of the television mini-series “True love” as Karen, a series about different stories exploring the reality of love in the modern world. She would next play Sally Weaver in the British thriller Twenty8k. Kaya portrayed the role of Zoey in the romantic drama Now Is Good, starring Dakota Fanning, before playing a T-shirt Vendor in Spike Island. Kaya would also be cast in the music video for Robbie William’s “Candy” that same year. Another television mini-series would come her way, where she would play Anna Salter on “Southcliffe”, where crimes of the English market town are told through the eyes of a journalist and victims. Kaya would play Emanuel in the thriller The Truth About Emanuel, opposite Jessica Biel, then would appear in the short film Walking Stories as Sara Campbell. She would earn an Ashland Independent Film Award for Best Acting Ensemble: Feature with her The Truth About Emanuel co-stars.

Kaya would play Teresa in the 2014 sci-fi thriller The Maze Runner, also starring Dylan O’Brien, based on the novel by James Dashner. The film would gross over $348 million opposite its $34,000 budget. She would begin 2015 by playing Jone’s Girlfriend in the short film A Plea for Grimsby before the release of her next film Tiger House playing Kelly. Kaya would reprise her role in The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. In December, she would marry actor Benjamin Walker after meeting on the set of their movie The King’s Daughter the year prior, and in late 2016, Kaya gave brith to their son. In 2017, she would play Carina Smyth, one of the main characters in the fifth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, also starring Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and Brenton Thwaites. She would reprise her role of Teresa for the last time in Maze Runner: The Death Cure in 2018.

In 2019, Kaya would portray the role of Carole Ann Boone in the Netflix film Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile about Ted Bundy, opposite Zac Efron. She would next play Haley in the thriller Crawl, where she tries to save her father in a Category 5 hurricane. 2020 would bring her back to Netflix in the series “Spinning Out” where she plays Kat Baker, a figure skater fighting her way back into competition by moving from singles to pairs. The show was canceled a month after it was released, but since then grew a huge fanbase. Next, she would play Hermia Easterbrook in the two-part mini-series “The Pale Horse” opposite Rufus Sewell. The King’s Daughter is being set for a US release in 2020, where Kaya plays Marie-Josephe D’Alember opposite Pierce Brosnan, William Hurt, and her husband Benjamin Walker.
